My name is Amanda Bermingham and I am a AP Research student at Rock Canyon High School located in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. I was born in Colorado and have lived in this beautiful state my whole life. I enjoy many of the outdoor activities Colorado has to offer such as skiing, hiking, and paddle boarding. In the Winter, I spent much of my time in Winter Park, Colorado skiing down the fresh powdered snow mountains. I love to stay active and run 6 days a week for the Rock Canyon cross country and track team.
When I'm not exploring the outdoors, I'm probably in school or doing homework. Through the Rock Canyon Biotech Program, I discovered my passion for science and research. In this class, I learned a multitude of new techniques used in the biotech world and got to work with several different model organisms such as fruit flies and C. elegans. This class is what inspired me to conduct research on fruit flies for my project this year. If I have any extra space in my schedule, you can bet I'm filling it with a science class. I enjoy learning how exactly things work in our universe and education in science allows me to do that.
With the extra time I have in my schedule, I spend time with my family and friends. I have an amazing mom who was a front line hospital worker during the pandemic, an entrepreneur dad, and a sister studying at CSU to earn a double major in biomedical engineering and biological and chemical engineering.
