In the modern day, it is not uncommon to see a majority of characters in films to be played by white actors. However, in a rapidly changing social climate, it is important to incorporate more people of color into films, especially those that tend to target a younger audience. Considering that the target audience for fairy tale films is the younger generation, it is important to include more actors that are of color to truly allow children to connect with the films.
In my research, I will be focusing on how people of color are portrayed in fairy tale films, specifically Cinderella films, and if their portrayal is adequate for a changing social climate. To do this I will have a selection of fairy tale films, and note the representation in it. An explanation video of my project can be found to the left!
