DESCRIPTION

This course is designed to help students discover and develop their talents as a leader. Students learn about leadership by getting involved in activities, engaging in group discussions, writing their thoughts and setting goals to act.  As students learn leadership by connecting it to everyday life, they will gain greater confidence in their potential and their abilities.  The Peer Leadership class seeks students who are self-motivated, role models for the school as well as community, and work well independently and collaboratively with students and staff members.

WORK EXPECTATIONS

Students will develop a basic understanding of leadership ideas and how to lead others. Students will learn practical leadership skills through fun and challenging activities, discussion, observation, reading, writing, and goal setting. Peer Leaders will be a part of Freshman and New Student orientations at the start of the school year and help to support the ninth-grade students in their transition to high school. Periodically check in with new students and ninth-grade students throughout the school year.
