Minnesota law requires that each child must participate in a screening program before entering kindergarten in a Minnesota public school. Children participate in a screening between the ages of 3 years and 5 years old. The purpose of screening is to assist parents and communities in improving the health of Minnesota children and to assist in planning educational and health programs of Minnesota children. If your child is between the ages of 3 and 5 and has not been screened, call 651-385-8000 to schedule an appointment for your child. Screenings are completed at Colvill Family Center on Thursdays in September through May.
All of the day-to-day interactions with your child prepare them for Kindergarten. Talking to your child, describing what you are seeing, setting limits for them, having them follow directions given, etc, all help them to be successful in Kindergarten.
