I'm Adam and I love the mountains

When I'm in the mountains I spend my time rock climbing, downhill skiing, ice climbing, backcountry skiing, dirt biking, and doing technical peaks and I absolutely love being in the mountains. When I'm not in the mountains I swim competitively with the Cochrane Comets Swim Club and am in the pool nearly 10 hours per week paired with 2 hours of out of the pool training. I also enjoy running and in the spring, participate in school track and field where I would typically run long distance, though this year I gave pentathlon a try and quite enjoyed it.

Determination courses through his submerged body, he breaks through the surface, gasping for a breath of air while continuing forward, victory is just upon him.

It was here, at Spray Lakes Family Sports Center, that the young Adam Henry uncovered his fondness of swimming. The new, shining floors of the freshly built pool is what brought him in. As his parents decided to let Mr. Henry finish his swimming lessons after 4 years of anticipation. A glimmer of interest sparked inside his heart.

As many people have a passion and a goal for said passion, sometimes they don’t always pursue it. This, however, Is not the case for Adam. Commitment can sometimes be a struggle. Most people will always state how committed they are, then proceed to not even try. Nevertheless, Adam is filled to the brim with dedication. “I’m in the pool 9.5 hours a week, plus 2 hours of boot camp.” Countless days have been spent at spray lakes, as Adam works towards his desire of becoming a lifeguard and swim instructor. “I’ve done all the training I’m allowed to until I turn 16,” Adam explains.”

To love a sport is easy for many, but to know why they love it, is another thing. Adam, without a doubt enjoys what he does, and favorites two very specific aspects of the sport, the community. “I think my favorite part about swimming is… somewhat competitiveness, but also like the community.” Adam loves the way that he is able to spend so much time socializing with new friends on the sidelines while awaiting his turn to swim, and when his time comes, it’s in and out of the pool, so he is able to continue creating new relationships.

A young man with a big heart, and an even bigger passion. Adam Henry is sure to blow the competition out of the water.
