Though social media has a bad connotation, there are some positive things social media adds to relationships. According to Pew Research Center, "Many teens in relationships view social media as a place where they can feel more connected with the daily contours of their significant other’s life, share emotional connections and let their significant other know they care". With social media, everyone can be in contact with each other all the time. It makes it easier for people to get to know one another. By knowing what is going on with your significant other 24/7 makes couples feel more connected and involved with one another which can strengthen their relationship. According to Pew Research Center, one High School Girl stated “I feel like it helps to develop a relationship because even if you meet someone in person, you can’t see them all the time or talk to them all the time to get to know them, so you text them or message them to get to know them better.” With this constant contact social media provides, it can make people feel wanted and needed by having their partner contact them through the phone. This also helps getting closer to your partner emotionally because it aids you to have conversations and talk about your emotions over the phone rather than in person. Talking emotionally over social media may be easier and more comfortable to do. Social media can help people balance their relationships better by having this social media outlet to talk to others. Lastly, Pew Research Center says, "Some 37% of teens with dating experience have used social media to tell their significant other how much they like them in a way that is visible to other people." This can elicit security in your partner and make them feel good and positive about your relationship. One may feel if their partner posts them on social media that they aren't embarrassed of them and doesn't want to keep their relationship a secret. This just overall boosts trust in their significant other and can make them feel good about themselves.
