My main goal when I started decorating my classroom was to make a place where students felt comfortable and engaged. I have motivational quotes and posters around the room to help the students think positive thoughts. I have stress fidget items to help students feel less tense when they are worked up, a box of tissues to help them get their emotions out, and candy because everyone loves candy!!

I have also created a virtual classroom via Google Classroom. Students will have an access code to join. They will get to be engaged and still learn using the School Counseling Curriculum Guide. 

***Counselor Slips*****

Students have access to counselor slips outside of the counseling room. They can fill out a slip anytime they need help with academic, social/emotional, or even goal-setting. 

Who is your Support system?

I will help students by discussing who they can turn to when they are in times of need. 

Helping a Student with Organization

I am working with some kiddos on this! Organization can be a challenge for many, especially for students switching classes.

Helping the Students deal with different situations

One important trait to have as a counselor is honesty with all your students. Students may sometimes discuss situations they are dealing with, and it is crucial for you, as a counselor, to be honest with them. If you can't help the student "fix" the issue, then explain that although there are things they can't control, there are also some things they can do personally to help them deal with the situation.

Setting Goals with Students

 In each counseling session, you are always working toward an end goal. For example, getting better grades, building positive relationships, getting involved in extracurricular activities, dealing with divorce, etc.

Individual counseling is going great! I have already had so many students ask to see me for different things in their lives.

**We will be utilizing Google Classroom if NTI/virtual days occur. Students can access the R-MIS Cares Connection Counseling link once they log onto Clever or through Google. Please let me know if you have any questions!
