Physical education presents a full spectrum of physical activities in order to equip students with the knowledge and skill experiences to maintain active lifestyles, identify fitness needs and objectives, and achieve well-being throughout their lives. The various activities consist of planned learning experiences which will assist students in gaining understanding, attitudes and practices related to fitness, rhythm and cooperative activities, as well as individual, dual and team sports.
This introductory course explores the foundational principles of sports medicine, including human anatomy and physiology, injury evaluation, and documentation. Students examine common athletic-related injuries to the lower and upper extremities as well as the axial skeleton. The course emphasizes basic skills in injury recognition and prevention, preparing students for further study in healthcare and sports performance fields.
Sports Medicine II builds on concepts from Sports Medicine I and focuses on the treatment, rehabilitation, and prevention of athletics-related injuries. Students learn therapeutic modalities for non-emergency care, develop rehabilitation protocols for various body regions, and understand criteria for return-to-play decisions. Additional topics include emergency response procedures and the administrative responsibilities involved in sports medicine professions.
