Whole Body Listening

We’re back to school with new teachers, new classmates, crispy mornings, and much to learn, with lots of listening required. Sometimes it’s not so easy to focus on class work and listening when the sun is shining and the last perfect days of summer-into-fall are calling.

Here is a quick summary of one our social skills that we focus on all year to help students remember what "good listeners" look like. It breaks down this abstract concept into simple, concrete behaviors.

Size of the Problem

This is a "thinking tool" to help us stay calm and regulated when problems happen. Click on the video to see how we define small/little, medium, and big problems to keep our reactions the same size.

Zones of Regulation

The Zones of Regulation is a skill to use to help students learn to recognize where their emotions are daily and make adjustments to help them be the best student they can be. Students at F.O.C.U.S. Program at Baytown Junior School, created their own characters and used their own voices to explain the blue, green, yellow and red zones.

Something to Use at Home

Here's a great example you could use at home to help your child recognize what zone they are in with a few tools the are great for getting back to green!
