In The Past...
This week we will be learning more about our new topic and will learn some new vocabulary focusing on fossils of dinosaurs.
Core text: Dinosaur Roar
Core song: Dinosaur Stomp
We can learn a lot about dinosaurs from fossils- use this PowerPoint to introduce fossils and discuss what children know about them- Powerpoint
Discuss how fossils are formed, explaining that when a plant or animal is long gone, its bones or teeth can become buried in the ground. Over time, minerals create a fossils.
Create your dinosaur fossil using play-dough. Discuss with the children the different types of fossils and the creatures that left them behind.
We will read the book 'Somebody Swallowed Stanley'. The seas are filled with rubbish. We will collect small amounts. Are they odd or even?
Here is an odd and even game to play at home.
We will play in the water tray with sea creatures and plastic waste. Can the children separate out the plastic to keep the sea creatures safe? Once collected we will place the rubbish onto a tens frame when collected to see how many pieces were collected.
Try some tens frame calculations at home.
