Monday 27th January Exeat
Happy Lunar New Year!
We look forward to seeing parents in school on the 29th January in the morning. Don't forget you Lunar New Year outfits!
Our World
We will learn all about the world we live in and take a closer look at some special countries from around the world.
Song: Hello to all the Children of the World
Story: The Snail and the Whale
This week we are visiting China.
It is Chinese New Year this week so we are there at a perfect time. Let’s have a look and see how Chinese New Year is celebrated.
We will read A Beach For Albert by Stuart J Murphy.
We will look at different measuring containers for capacity.
Is the container full or empty? What do we say if it is only half full? Use the vocabulary 'half full', 'nearly full' and 'nearly empty'.
Play games with the containers to compare capacity using red rice to help celebrate CNY!
We will investigate how many small spoons of red sand does it take to fill a container? How many large spoons do we need?
Sing this song about capacity.

Listen to the story of
In Giraffes Can't Dance
Do you think giraffes can dance? How do you feel when you can’t do something as well as you wish? Does it matter if you are not good at something and if you enjoy doing it?
Activity
Let’s brainstorm three things you already do well and write them down on the board.
It can be anything from running fast, solving math problems, and comforting their friends when they’re sad.
Talk about HOW we became so good at these things.” Did you have to practice? How long did it take to learn? Or did you magically acquire these skills overnight?
Tapestry focus - this week we will focus on our activities and challenges that we complete with our visiting author, Laura Wall.
