This week we will have our Exploring Eagle science day that we will celebrate with activities in class.
Our World
We will read the Snail and the Whale by Julia Donaldson. Where does the snail visit?
Song: Hello to all the Children of the World
Story: The Snail and the Whale
Last week we packed our bags ready to go on our adventure around the world. Shall we find out where we are going first?
To Thailand!
Let's think about what animals we find in Thailand - can you think of any?
Elephants are probably the most well-known animals in Thailand. Let's find out a little bit more about them.
Can you work together in your small groups to sort which of the animals live in Thailand and which do not?
Does a Polar Bear live in Thailand? Why not? Do you know where it does live? What about a kangaroo?
Introducing Mass
We will read 'Who Sank The Boat' by Pamela Allen.
We will look at balancing scales. What are they for? How do we use them?
We will think about our story 'Snail and the Whale' by Julia Donaldson. Using the words 'heavy' and 'light' we will think about the mass of some sea creatures.
We will play some games using balancing scales to work out what is heavier or lighter.
Can you find some objects that are heavier or lighter than this toy snail? Can we sort them?
This week, we are going to see the movie
The Snail and the Whale
based on Julia Donaldson's book.
We learnt about Wh-questions to gather the information.
Answer the questions related to the story:
Who are the main characters?
What do they do?
Where do they go?
The book is written in rhymes.
Listen to your teacher reading the story again
and try to find some of the rhyming words.
How many did you get?
Keep trying even when it is difficult.
Listen to the story of The Hare and Tortoise.
Which animal is slow?
which animal is fast?
Which animal do you like, the Tortoise or the Hare? Why do you like this animal? Â
What is the life lesson you can learn from this story?
Slow and Steady win the race
Hard work pays off
Tapestry focus - this week we will focus on our topic and some pictures of your children completing some topic activities.
