Understanding my feelings
We will continue to learn all about feelings and how we express ourselves. We will also discuss what happens to our bodies when we feel different emotions.
This week, we will be learning about the feeling of fear.
The children will listen to a song about emotions, watch it here, and discuss times when they might feel scared, such as in the dark or when exposed to loud noises.
Together, we will create a class chart of “Things That Make Us Scared” and explore simple coping strategies, such as hugging a toy, talking to a grown-up, or saying, “I am safe.”
We will also enjoy a story watch here to see how characters manage their fears.
This week the children will explore the idea of feeling safe through play with blocks and Lego. They will be encouraged to build something that helps them feel secure — such as a tower, a house, or a wall — and then share their ideas with the group, saying things like “My tower keeps out monsters!”
As the activity develops, the children will begin joining their creations together to form collaborative safe villages, encouraging imagination, teamwork, and discussion about what makes us feel safe.
Start with a movement pattern. E.g. Clap, Stomp, Clap, Stomp (A B A B).
Ask the children what comes next.
Repeat a few times with different simple body patterns (Jump, Wiggle, Jump, Wiggle).
Watch this video.
Use two distinct, real-life objects (e.g. a red apple and a green pear ), large wooden blocks and plastic cones, or two colours of large Duplo/Lego bricks.
1. Lay out the first four elements of an A B A B pattern (e.g., Red Block, Blue Block, Red Block, Blue Block).
2. Point and say the pattern aloud together: "Red, Blue, Red, Blue."
3. Ask: "What comes next?" (A Red Block). Have a child add it.
4. Ask: "Now what?" (A Blue Block). Have another child add it.
5. Repeat with a different pair of objects (e.g., Teddy, Car, Teddy, Car). Focus on identifying the repeating unit (A B).
It is caring Koala week. Caring Koala uses his listening ears.
Can you play a listening game like Simon says?
You could also play this listening game on YouTube
Let's put on our listening ears and go on a listening walk.
What can you hear?
You could make your special listening ears
to help you listen on your walk.
This week, we are learning the sounds

Our Responsibilities
"I can work well with others"
Our Rights
I am starting to understand children's rights, and this means we should all be allowed to learn and play.
Talk together about why it is better to work as a team.
Here is the link to the mindfulness colouring pages (link).
Would you like to complete them with some of your friends?
Working together helps everyone learn and play more successfully.
Give each small group of children a simple puzzle, picture cut into pieces, or a set of large building blocks.
Explain that their job is to work as a team to complete the puzzle or build something together.
Encourage the children to talk about their ideas and listen to each other as they work.
When finished, ask:
“How did it feel to work together?”
“Was it easier or harder when you shared ideas and helped each other?”
