Understanding my feelings
We will continue to learn all about feelings and how we express ourselves. We will also discuss what happens to our bodies when we feel different emotions.
Here is our song.
This week we explored the feeling of anger — what it looks like, how it feels in our bodies, and safe ways to manage it. Through the story When Sophie Gets Angry – Really, Really Angry link here, children described angry faces and actions, shared what makes them feel cross, and practised calming strategies such as deep breathing, stretching, and sitting quietly.
Song: The Emotions Hokey Pokey
This week we will explore safe ways to manage anger through our “Angry Balloons” activity.
We will learn that, just like a balloon full of air, big feelings can be let out safely.
Together, we will practise calming strategies such as taking deep breaths, talking, and hugging a toy.
This week we are exploring the different ways in which we can sort and match.
Let’s start with something nice and easy… We have been talking lots about ‘tidying as we go’ in our learning spaces. Can you help to sort these socks into the correct drawers?
Look at these toys. How can we sort the toys? Can you find a different way?
We will read The Button Box by Margarette Reid.
How were the buttons sorted?
Invite children to play with animals/cars/anything they are interested in and see if they are able to put them into groups.
Can you tell you about your groups?
Try adding something to the groups that does not belong... Does this fit in the group? No? Can you tell me why?
Watch this video for more sorting fun!
At home you could try playing a 'guess my rule' game. Player 1 will sort some items (into colours, sizes or shapes). Player 2 will have to guess the rule.
This week, we will read
When Sophie Gets Angry – Really, Really Angry by Molly Bang.
Together, we will explore Sophie’s feelings in the story, talk about what makes us feel angry or calm, and practise showing different emotions through our faces and actions.
The children will learn simple ways to say, “I feel ___ when ___,” helping them to connect feelings with real experiences.
This week, we are learning the sounds
/i/ and /n/
In small groups, we will use our interactive audio wall,
All About Emotions, concentrating on "ANGRY".
The children will learn different words (synonyms),
listen to short prompts, guess the feeling,
and point to the matching picture.
They will also have the chance to act out
and express their emotions.
This activity supports speaking and listening
while giving plenty of practice using English words for feelings
in a fun and engaging way.
Let's read this story together. This story will help us understand what our feelings are and how to express them in a calm, gentle way.
This week, we are zoning in on our feelings and the reasons why we are feeling that way.
Let's it together and look at a set of feelings pictures (happy, sad, excited, tired, cross).
Choose the picture that shows how your child feels this morning.
Encourage them to say: “I feel ___ because ___.”
Let’s check out our Makaton Signs for the week: .
