We are continuing to explore emotions, and learn how feelings are very natural and can be expressed in safe, positive ways.
Core Song: In My Heart, A Book of Feelings
by Jo Witek
Core Song: You can tell how I feel!
This week, we will be focusing on understanding sadness.
Ask: “Can you remember a time when you felt sad?”
Or: “Have you ever seen someone else who was sad? What happened?”
Encourage children to use sentence starters: “I felt sad when…”
Together we will read this book.
Pause on the “sad” pages. Ask: “What does sadness look like on the face?”
“What happens to your body when you feel sad?” (droopy, tears, quiet).
Use the mirror: children make a “sad face” and notice what changes (mouth, eyes, shoulders).
Helping Hands:
Place a soft toy/teddy looking “sad” in the middle.
Give children paper hand cutouts (or have them draw around their hands).
Each child suggests one way to help a sad friend (such as a hug, playing, kind words, or sharing a toy) and puts their hand in the circle.
At the end, say: “Look how many helping hands we have for our sad friend!”
This week we are going to continue to deepen our understanding of numbers and the different ways to represent them and their amounts or values.
Each day we will warm up by using our magical ‘maths eyes’ to spot as many different things in the picture we show on the interactive whiteboard.
This will be a great way to not only practice our counting, but also extend our learning with different mathematical vocabulary and concepts.
Give each child a fives frame.
We will have a selection of resources for them to choose from.
Demonstrate how to put one item in each square of the frame. Use a random number generator (0-5) to challenge the children to find that amount and add to their fives frame.
Ensure that the children can also see the numeral to make that connection too.
This week, we will be learning how to ask questions through stories and pictures.
Together, we will listen to a story, pause to wonder what might happen next, and practise asking each other questions like “Who?”, “What?”, and “Where?”.
This week, we are learning the sounds
/t/ and /p/
In small groups, we will play a picture card game to practise using question words. We will use cards and books showing animals, food, or vehicles, and ask each other questions.
Some of us will use simple sentence starters such as “What is…?” while others will try asking more challenging “Why?” or “How?” questions. This activity helps us build confidence in speaking.
Together We Tidy
Let’s watch a video about helping out after playtime.
Think about how friends help tidy up and share the work.
Can you imagine helping even when no one asks?
Let’s see how cleaning together makes everything easier and happier.
Teamwork Tigers Role-Play
The children become Teamwork Tigers during our role-play activity.
They use puppets to act out different tidy-up scenarios together.
We discuss how it feels when everyone helps versus when a friend tidies alone.
The children learn that teamwork makes tidying faster, easier, and happier for everyone.
This week we will be sharing some special moments from your child’s self directed learning.
