This week we are going to celebrate our similarities and differences, and talk about how it feels to belong.
Here is a story that we will share: Our Class Is A Family
This week we are continuing to work on our class animal crafts.
Here are some examples of how you could do it, but you can also think of your own way too! It’s entirely up to you.
Use paper and pencils
Use paints
Use junk modelling materials e.g. paper plates, boxes…
Make a mask
Follow some origami instructions
Use lego
When you have finished your creation, we can take a photograph and pop it in your WoW book!
For the children who managed to complete this last week, they might like to make a start on their next WoW book task - a self portrait that can be created in any form!
When the children are ready to have a go at this, we will watch this short clip from Sesame Street - What Makes You Special? and talk about what the children think makes them special.
We will make a note of these and annotate the children's self portraits.
Today we are going to play a game as a whole class.
We will each wear a number vest.
On the number vest is an amount.
Your mission is to see if you can find the person with the matching amount!
You might have to find the same number of dots, the same number of fingers, Numicon or even Numberblocks...
This week we will be working on accurate counting using one-to-one correspondence in a variety of different contexts.
We will try to practice this within our play as much as possible, but will also try some matching and sorting activities in class too.
Here are some supporting songs and videos:
Sesame Street 1-5 (longer one)
Numberblocks 1-5 (longer one)
This week we will begin to learn more about emotions and how we express ourselves.
Let’s listen to a song: You can tell how I feel!
Pause the song as it describes each face and invite the children to show you their best version e.g. of a silly face.
Later in the week, listen to the song again, but this time, invite the children to tell their friends about a time when they felt e.g. happy.
Phonics
We will be following the Monster Phonics programme. This week we will be introducing the following sounds:
S A T P I N
This week we are going to celebrate our similarities and differences, and talk about how it feels to belong.
Here are a selection of videos/stories to support our class discussions throughout the week:
eBook - You Really, Truly Do Belong!
eBook - Our Class Is A Family
Sesame Street - We’re Different, We’re The Same
ebook - We Are All Different
We'll have lots of short activities throughout the week:
1. Let’s revisit the class agreement/rules that we decided upon last week. It’s our job to follow these as we are all really important members of our class, and must work together, as a team.
2. Can you think of any other groups of people that you are a special part of?
Ideas - family, class, year group, school, sports team, friendship groups etc.
3. Hold up your class teddy and ask some Q’s e.g. Do you look the same as our Hippo? Do you have a nose like our Hippo? Etc. Introduce the language of similarities and differences.
4. Now let’s think about us all as individuals. Look at a friend. Can you tell each other one thing that is the same or similar? And one thing that is different? Share as a class.
Let’s check out our Makaton Signs for the week: .
