To follow on our topic...
Where Does It Come From?
Today we will focus on how rice is made.
Discuss the process of growing rice.
If they have had rice for meals at home with their family?
How is the rice cooked?
How does your family prepare rice?
We will make Maracas Music instrument paper roll craft together.
You will need the following :
☆Paper rolls ☆ Scissors ☆ craft glue
☆1 popsicle ☆ ribbons
☆ a bowl of rice ☆ coloured tapes.
Sing and dance to the rice song
We will read some counting stories together. Here is one favourite Halloween counting story.
Can you count how many pumpkins there are in the story? Use your fingers to represent the number. Do you always need to count, or can you subitise?
The children will work in small groups to find certain amounts of different items: 3 animals, 3 sticks, 3 children, etc.
Do you need to count? Do you need to touch something to know how many there are? What happens if I jump 3 times?
Lets have another read of our topic story- Pete the cat goes to the supermarket
Using a selection of role play food or real food from your kitchen play the shopping game. Repeat the phrase 'I went to the supermarket and I bought…. (pick an item)' the next person continues repeating the same phrase and adding a new item but also adds what the previous item was.
Draw the food from the previous activity into a shopping trolley (link). Name everything you have placed in your shopping trolley using the phrase, 'I went to the supermarket and I bought....'
Celebrating Difference
"I’m Special, I’m Me!"
I understand that being different makes us all special.
I can include others when working and playing.
Interactive Reading
As you read the story,
let the children continue the patterns
presented on different pages
and discuss how they differ from others.
Today you will read with your teacher.
