This week we will continue to learn about 'Under the Sea' but will have a spread of STEAM challenges throughout the week that will follow these whole school themes:
Monday-Love Nature
Tuesday-Clean Our Seas
Wednesday-Healthy Eating
Thursday-Dress-up Day
Who can remember what we are learning about...that’s right ‘Under the Sea’ Let’s sing our slippery fish song together!
I do Love looking at all the different sea creatures we find in nature!
Mmmm who was the second sea creature that we met in the song...an octopus! This week we are going to be learning all about the octopus.
First, let's take a look at some real octopus in this video. Can you see how they move? What about the colours that you saw, did you see it change colours?
Look at the picture above and lets count how many legs the octopus has!
Now let’s look at the Makaton for Octopus.
Activity 1: MATHS: Look at what the teachers have cut out of paper...a GIANT octopus!
Mmmm but we need to add some suckers, let's go and find our Duplo blocks and make some stamps like in this picture.
How many legs does our octopus have? Let's count them together...8!
Let's be Teamwork Tigers and work together to give this octopus some suckers.
Activity 2: ENGINEERING: Can you help our octopus by building them shelters? On our light table we have magnetic tiles. Can you make an enclosure using the shapes provided?
Who can remember which sea creature we are learning about this week? That's right, an octopus!
Let’s create the sounds of the sea. Come and choose an instrument from the basket to explore and play along with The Octopus song.
Can you shake or tap your instrument to the beat of the song?
Now for the next challenge, this time when I play the song you need to play your instruments but when I stop the music you need to stop playing your instruments so don't forget those listening ears!
Gosh, great work! Now let's explore our Octopus book.
How many different Makaton signs do you know for things under the sea?
Activity 1: MATHS: Yesterday we made one GIANT octopus together and used BIG Duplo blocks to print on the suckers.
Today we are going to make little octopus' using lego blocks. Can you find a lego block with 8 circles on? Now your teacher has already cut out a simple octopus on paper for you to add the suckers onto, what colour paint will you use to print your suckers on with?
Activity 2: SCIENCE: Oh no, look at our water tray, all the poor octopuses are having to swim in the water but the water has lots of plastic rubbish inside! Can you help us to clean the sea by using the scoops to scoop out all the plastic rubbish...but be careful not to catch an octopus.
Who can remember which sea creature we are learning about this week? That's right, an octopus! Let's get our bodies moving and stand up and sing this fun octopus action song:
Wasn’t that fun getting our bodies moving. It is always important to move our bodies as this helps us to stay healthy. I wonder what else we can do to stay healthy…we can eat healthy foods!
Who would like to come and choose a food to feed our octopus…if it is a healthy food the octopus will smile but if it is unhealthy the poor octopus will have a sad face.
Activity 1: TECHNOLOGY: Can you help your teachers play this fun game and see if you can spot all the healthy foods.
Activity 2: ART: Let’s work as a team to create a giant octopus art collage together using paint and stickers for suckers…what amazing artists we are.
Let’s check out our Makaton Signs for the week: Bike, Car & Plane.
Let’s take a look at this week's preparation for writing programme - Wiggle me into Squiggle. This week's action is:
Wriggle me into a Squiggle Song Sheet
Our 'Sound Song' this week is for the letter 'I'
This week we will be observing each child’s particular interest.
