People Who Help Us
We will learn all about the people in our communities that help us.
Core Story: Emergency by Margaret Mayo
Core Song: Hurry, Hurry, Drive the Firetruck
This week we have a new topic 'People Who Help Us'.
Can we think of anyone that helps us? Let's look at our special book for this topic:
This week we are looking at Fire Fighters! We know a song all about Fire Fighters, lets sing it together:
Hurry, Hurry Drive the Firetruck
We can also sing this Fire Fighter song too, you may recognise the tune of another song we love to sing at school:
Time to Fight a Fire (online)
Time to Fight a Fire (video)
Today we are going to practice our number recognition using our fine motor skills.
There are lots of Numicon numbers hiding in the colourful rice.
Can you use the tweezers to pull out the numbers?
Can you tell me the number name?
Now lets clap that number out.
Who were we learning about that can help us? That’s right - Firefighters
Could you all hear the siren of the Fire Engine?
What happens if there is a fire in school? We would hear our school alarm and evacuate.
Let's listen on my computer to what our alarm sounds like, this is just a practice so that we can hear what it sounds like.
Join in with this “Community Helpers” song.
Oh, no! Our windows are on fire!
Firefighters, someone has painted some 'fire' onto our windows!
Let's put out the fire with our 'extinguishers' and spray bottles!
Can we wash it all off?
Who are we learning about this week? Firefighters!
Let’s find out how to use Makaton with our favourite Firefighter song.
Singing Hands - Makaton
Let’s try together...
Shaving Cream Fire Art
Let's mix shaving cream with red and yellow paint and create fire-like art!
I have someone hiding behind these rainbow colours, let’s uncover each one to find out who it is.
Firefighters! How many firefighters could we see in our picture…3! Let’s play this game to find out what firefighters need to wear to keep them safe.
If we take a close look at our firefighter picture, what colours can you see?
Red, yellow and orange.
Let’s find our fire colour dancing scarves and move along to this piece of music. When the music is quiet shake your scarf low to the ground, when the music is loud then shake your scarf high up into the air.
Happy Diwali
Diwali is a celebration of lights and is celebrated for 5 days, with the main day being on Friday 1st November.
Let's learn a little more about this celebration by reading this story:
During Diwali children watch fireworks, let's watch some fireworks together:
Activity 1: During Diwali it is traditional to create pictures out of sand so we will put sand on our light table and create some art of our own!
Activity 2: Let's make some beautiful firework painting using toilet roll tubes.
Let’s check out our Makaton Signs for the week: Eat, Showe & Brush Teeth.
Let’s take a look at this week's preparation for writing programme - Wiggle me into Squiggle. This week's action is:
Wriggle me into a Squiggle Song Sheet
Our 'Sound Song' this week is for the letter 'S'
This week we will be looking at how the children manipulate different tools in the classroom and which hand they feel most comfortable using.
