People Who Help Us
We will learn all about the people in our communities that help us.
Core Story: Emergency by Margaret Mayo
Core Song: Hurry, Hurry, Drive the Firetruck
Someone else who can help us is a DOCTOR. We know a song about some monkeys who needed a doctor…
Let’s sing it again using our felt monkeys.
Do you know where the doctor works? In a hospital, that’s right! Let’s learn a little bit more about hospitals
Let’s go to the role play hospital and pretend to be doctors and nurses caring for the baby dolls. What new language can we use; doctor, nurse, sick, hurt, ouch, bandage, stethoscope, medicine.
Let's sing Miss Polly Had a Dolly.
Oh dear, what was wrong with Miss Polly’s dolly? She was sick. Who came to help? That's right, the doctor.
This week we are learning all about people who help us in the hospital. Let’s read about when Maisy went to hospital.
Did you see in our story that the doctor took a special photography of Maisy’s bones, inside her, called an X-ray?
Here’s a song about X-rays!
Working in pairs at the light box.
Do you remember one of the doctors jobs is to take pictures inside your body and these are called x-rays.
Now let's have a look at some x-ray photos on our light box and see if we can guess the body parts!
Yesterday we looked at our light box to see what we could see inside to guess the different body parts, let's sing
Heads Shoulders Knees and Toes
to remind ourselves of our body parts!
Today we are going to be making some of our own x-ray body parts, (demonstrate craft.)
Let’s have a look at a hand x-ray
Now we need to get our hands moving and ready for our x-ray craft and sing
Come and choose which body part you would like to ‘X-Ray’ (foot or hand).
Let’s paint your chosen body part in white and make a print onto black paper to create an X-Ray style picture.
Listen everyone, what can you hear?
Oh dear, my little dog is crying, how can we stop it from crying, let’s pretend to be dog doctors and see if we can make it better!
First, let’s use the stethoscope and listen to its heartbeat.
Well, that is good news the dog’s heart sounds good. Now let’s do an x-ray:
Oh dear, I think the dog's leg is broken. How can we fix it? Can someone help me put a bandage on it?
Today in our carpet time we used a stethoscope to listen to the dogs heartbeat, shall we listen to the heartbeat again?
Can you hear the regular beat, let’s get out our rhythm sticks and see if we can play along to the heartbeat together.
Let’s check out our Makaton Signs for the week: Read, Write & Speak
Let’s take a look at this week's preparation for writing programme - Wiggle me into Squiggle. This week's action is:
Wriggle me into a Squiggle Song Sheet
Our 'Sound Song' this week is for the letter 'S'
This week we will observe the children in our role play doctors areas, can they use their imagination to to reenact their own personal experiences.
