Once Upon A Time
This term, we will learn to become storytellers and will focus on some traditional tales:
Goldilocks and the Three Bears
We also like singing:
Today, we’ll dive into an exciting new tale — Jack and the Beanstalk! Let’s find out what happens when Jack climbs a magical beanstalk into the sky…
Let’s talk about the story:
How did Jack feel when he was told to sell his cow?
How did mom feel when Jack traded the cow for magic beans?
What instrument woke up the Giant?
Can you describe the giant?
We’re going to use our voices to make different sounds today! I’ll show you a picture from Jack and the Beanstalk, and we’ll try to make the sound that matches it together.
Here’s a harp. What sound do you think a harp makes? Let’s try it together with our voices!
Can you make that sound too?
Now let’s look at some more pictures and see what sounds we can create with our voices!
Counting On 1 More
Jack sold his cow for a bag of magic beans. Today we are going to look at counting magic beans and finding out what number comes next.
Everyone is going to take turns taking a magic bean from the bag. Let’s try to count how many beans there are. What number comes next?
Now we are going to have a look at Jack’s magic beans. How many would he have if we gave him one more?
In small groups, play this interactive whiteboard game using numbers 0-10.
Can you recognise each number?
Which number comes next?
Yesterday, we learned a new story. Can you remember the name of the story?
Yes, that’s right – well done! It was called Jack and the Beanstalk.
Today, we are going to read the story again – but this time, it’s a Magical Musical Book!
Let’s use our looking eyes to look at the pictures.
Let’s turn on our listening ears to hear the sounds.
Can we use our words to talk about what we see and hear?
In small groups, we will play this fun game!
Look — there is a beanstalk on the carpet.
At the top of the beanstalk, there is a bag full of golden coins.
I will give everyone a picture card.
One at a time, please show your picture and tell the group what it is.
Then, the teacher will say one of the words slowly (we call this segmenting).
If you have the matching card, hold it up high!
If you are right, you can tiptoe to the top of the beanstalk and take one of the giant’s coins.
At the end, let’s count our coins together.
How many do you have?
