Once Upon A Time
This term, we will learn to become storytellers and will focus on some traditional tales:
Goldilocks and the Three Bears
We also like singing:
Today we are going to read a new story. So far we’ve had Goldilocks and the 3 Bears, the 3 Little Pigs and now we are looking at the 3 Billy Goats Gruff! What do all these stories have in common?
They all include the number 3!
Let’s listen to the story and see if there’s anything else the same?
Is there anything else the same?
They all include animals! And someone being mean or naughty!
Who is the troll like from 3 Little Pigs?
That’s right: the big, bad wolf!
Here are some different materials.
Can you work as a small group to create a bridge for the Billy Goats?
You could make a small one inside or a big one outside.
Which materials will you choose?
Today, we are going to be learning about shapes. Can anyone tell me a shape you know? Can you find this shape?
Let’s play this fun shape song to help us learn.
We are going to try drawing some shapes on our whiteboard.
Can you draw a circle? No sides
Can you draw a triangle? How many sides? 3 sides
Can you draw a square? How many sides? 4 sides - all the same.
Can you draw a rectangle? How many sides? 4 sides - 2 long and 2 short.
What story have we been learning about this week? That’s right - 3 Billy Goats Gruff.
And what lived under the bridge in the story? That's right - a troll! Let’s learn this fun song and dance like a troll! Everybody standing up and dancing! Song 1 and Song 2
Let’s Make a Shape Troll Craft!
We are going to make a colourful troll using shapes.
We will use a circle, triangle, square, and rectangle to build our troll.
This will go in our Wow Books to show our amazing creativity!
Today we’re going to read a very special story The Three Billy Goats Gruff
And guess what? You get to help tell it using your hands, feet, and body!
We’ll be doing clapping, stamping, and patting while we read. You’ll see little pictures on the pages that show us what sounds to make.
Sometimes we’ll make quiet sounds, like walking on soft grass...
And sometimes we’ll make loud sounds, like the big troll stomping!
Are you ready to use your body to help tell the story?
Let’s use our looking eyes, listening ears, and ready hands!
Now, can you show your teacher that you remember the order of the story?
Oh no—look at the story cards! They’re all mixed up.
Can you help put them back in the correct sequence?
Wow, look at what your teacher has made using some of the Soft Play pieces, what do you think it could be? It is definitely something from our story, can you guess. That’s right, it is a bridge! Who lives under the bridge? The troll. Who can remember, what the troll says when he hears someone walking over his bridge? “Whose that trip-trapping over MY bridge?” can you all help me to shout out this line together, let’s go! Now, who would like to be the Little Billy Goat and climb over the bridge? Once you have reached the top of the bridge let’s all say together “Whose that trip-trapping over my bridge?”, can you say “It is me, Little Billy Goat”. Next, we can repeat this with Middle-sized Billy Goat and the Big Billy Goat.
We can practice our key phrase from our song “Whose that trip-trapping over my bridge” in this fun song:
Let’s have a look at these flashcards and answer the questions:
3 Billy Goats Gruff Emotions Quiz Questions
Now we can work together in pairs and play this pairs game. Turn one card over, what emotion can you see? Now turn another card over, what emotion can you see, are the emotions the same or different? If they are the same then well done you can keep the pair of cards! Now it is your friends turn to have a go, always remember to take turns when playing games.
Squiggle- Last week we did the first 'Squiggle Me Into a Writer' dance (i,l,t) . Does anyone want to show us how to write these letters on the board? Today we will do the next set of letters (b,p,k). Demonstrate how these letters are similar as when we write them we start at the top, go down and then up and around. Now we are going to squiggle dance these letters. First we will write them in the air, then we will write them on the floor with our finger and then with a pen. You can do just one, two or all three!
Phonics- Robot Ricks CVC kitchen- Will need a chopping board and knife (toy ones from kitchen) Robot rick is doing some cooking can you guess what he is cooking. Hide items in a bag then demonstrate cutting them up in the bag and saying the sounds. Can children blend the word together to guess what Robot rick has been cooking? Can more able children have a go at cutting up the objects?
This week we will be following your child's interest and observing what they have enjoyed learning in their classrooms.
