Once Upon A Time
This term, we will learn to become storytellers and will focus on some traditional tales:
Goldilocks and the Three Bears
We also like singing:
Today, we are going to look at different emotions. Emotions are the different feelings that we have. Let’s start by singing a song all about emotions.
Now, we are going to read the story of the 3 Little Pigs and I wonder if you can work out how the characters are feeling at different parts of the story.
How did the pigs feel when they were building their houses?
What do you think they felt when they finished their houses?
How did the wolf feel when the little pigs wouldn’t let him in the house?
How did the pigs feel when the wolf was outside?
When we feel angry like the wolf, what could we do to help ourselves feel better?
Using different materials in the tuff tray, can you build houses for the 3 little pigs? What will you use to build the house?
Do you think the wolf would be able to blow it down?
Who can remember the title of our story that we are learning about? ‘The 3 Little Pigs’. What did the pigs use to build their houses; straw, sticks and bricks. I have some straw, sticks and bricks and I am going to create a repeated pattern, can you help me to guess which item comes next, let’s try! First we will try 2 items; brick, stick, brick, stick, brick…what comes next? Now let’s try with 3 items; straw, stick, brick, straw, stick, brick, straw…what comes next? Wow, we are making patterns!
Now let’s take some turns completing some more patterns:
Finally we can join in with this fun pattern song:
Today we made patterns as a class and now we are going to continue making these patterns together one by one with your teacher. Using the straw, sticks and bricks, we will make repeated patterns. First, let’s try a 2 items repeated pattern, then a 3 item pattern. If you can complete these let’s try a harder challenge with a more complicated pattern for example; stick, brick, brick, stick, brick brick, stick…what comes next?
Shhh! Quiet!
Today, we’re going to help the Three Little Pigs stay asleep—but it’s going to be tricky, because there are some noisy sounds around! Shhh… let’s listen very carefully and see what might wake them up.
Repeat the rhyme after me:
“Shhh! Quiet! The pigs are asleep, tucked up in bed without a peep…”
Now, let’s listen—what was that sound? Can you guess what made it? Was it a bird? A car? Something else?
Now, here’s a little challenge for you—close your eyes like a sleeping pig. I’m going to play one of the sounds again. No peeking!
Can you guess the sound?
“Where are you?”
Now, we are going to sing a song about the three little pigs. We are going to use our bodies to add actions and sounds.
Actions:
Turning at nose
Palms up.
Patting knees with the beat 3 x
Waving hand
Hands up like claws
Sing to the tune of “Five Family Finger”
Little pig, little pig Where are you? In my house, in my house How do you do? Sister pig, sister pig Where are you? In my house, in my house How do you do? Brother pig, brother pig Where are you? In my house, in my house How do you do? Big Bad Wolf, Big Bad Wolf Where are you? Here I am, here I am Time you get you! Ahhhhhhhhhh
Now… Can we sing very fast? What about singing it very loud?
Maybe quietly?
What story have we been learning about? That’s right - The Three Little Pigs!
Let’s listen to his fun song altogether
Today on the carpet, we’re going to act out the story together!
I need a very special volunteer to be Piggy 1.
Okay, Piggy 1, please choose someone to be Piggy 2.
Piggy 2, your turn to choose Piggy 3.
And Piggy 3, can you choose someone to be The Big Bad Wolf?
We’re not going to do the whole story — just the part where the Big Bad Wolf goes to blow down the straw house, all the way to the end.
Once that group has finished, the next group will get a turn
In small groups, we’re going to act out the story of The Three Little Pigs.
Each group will need one person to be Piggy 1, one to be Piggy 2, one to be Piggy 3, and one to be the Big Bad Wolf.
Let’s put on our masks and get ready!
The teacher will read the story aloud while you act out your parts.
We’ve now finished all of the squiggle dances! Now we are going to start getting ready for reception and writing some real letters! The first letters we will practice are the straight letters that link to dance 1. We are going to use our magic finger to write them in the air, then we are going to use our finger to write it on the floor and then finally we are going to write it with a pencil/pen. (letters i,l,t do one letter two, or all three)
Phonics-
Using some items emphasise the initial sounds- ‘I can see a ch, ch, chair and a t, t, table. What can you see? What sound does it start with?’
Show the children the first set of photo cards. Say the name of each thing. ‘Branch, bird, stream, berries; let’s point at the pictures and say the words together.’ Make sure that the children recognise and can name each photograph. ‘Three of these pictures start with the same sound, but one starts with a different sound. That one is the odd sound out. Let’s see if we can find it!’. Point to each picture and each word again. Encourage the children point and say the word with you. Emphasise the initial sound of each word ‘b, b, branch. B, b, bird. S, s, stream. B, b, berries.’ 5. Ask someone to select the odd one out- repeat with other pictures.
Can use the cards or objects in the classroom.
This week we will be observing your child engaging in role play based on the story "The Three Little Pigs"
Makaton- This week in Makaton we will be learning the signs for Hat, Sunglasses, Suncream
