Once Upon A Time
This term, we will learn to become storytellers and will focus on some traditional tales:
Goldilocks and the Three Bears
We also like singing:
Across Rugby School Thailand we will be celebrating World Earth Day. Remembering ways in which we can help our planet Earth.. Our main focus will be how we can help to care for all the animals that live on planet Earth and how we can support charities that help animals.
Your child is invited to come to school wearing animal ears and donate packs of dog food that we can will send to the local dog shelters.
This week, we are continuing to read the book 'Goldilocks and the Three Bears'. Let’s read it again!
Today is 'World Earth Day' so we need to remember ways we can help our planet, Earth. How do you think we can help the Earth?
We can be ‘Caring Koalas’ and care for the animals.
What else can we do?
We can recycle. Does anyone know what recycling is? Let’s watch this video to help us to understand. Just like the story ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’, this video has a bear called ‘Polly Olly’ and he is going to teach us how to recycle so let's watch very carefullly.
Now it’s our turn to recycle and be kind to the earth. We can all take a turn to take something out of the bag. We can decide whether it is cardboard or plastic. If it is cardboard it goes in the 'green bin' and if it is plastic it goes in the 'yellow bin'. Well done, you are recycling and this is being kind to the Earth.
Due to it being World Earth Day, we asked your families at home to recycle and save toilet rolls for us. The families did a very good job and we have lots and lots of toilet rolls.
So, we are going to make recyclable characters from the story ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’. What character do you want to make? Goldilocks? Daddy Bear, Mummy Bear or Baby Bear? When you are finished you can take your crafts home!
Let's sing our Goldilocks song.
There are lots of words related to size in our story: large, medium, small.
Look at a range of objects from around the classroom, such as bowls, shoes, socks, etc. in 3 sizes. Sort the objects into 3 groups: large, medium and small. Can you think of any other words to talk about size: huge, enormous, big, tiny, teeny, little.
Here is an online game to play too.
Practise sorting the objects by size.
Remember to use lots of amazing words to talk about how big each object is.
Today is a very special day—it’s Teddy Bear Picnic Day! I see so many wonderful teddy bears here with us. Can we all give our teddy bears a big hug? Squeeze!
Now, one by one, we are going to introduce our teddy bears to the class. When it’s your turn, you can tell us your teddy bear’s name and something special about it. Maybe your teddy is soft, fluffy, or even very, very big! I have some special picture cards to help us with words if we need them.
Let’s all listen carefully while our friends talk about their teddy bears. After each friend shares, we can say, ‘Thank you for sharing!’
Story Sequencing
Now, do you remember the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears? Let’s look at these story cards together—oh no! They’re all jumbled up! Can you help me put them in the correct order? Think about what happened first, next, and last. Let’s work together to retell the story the right way!
Today I have a really big piece of card and I am going to put it on the floor and lay down 3 bears on to! What size bears can you see…a BIG bear, a MIDDLE-SIZE bear and a TEENY-TINY baby bear. In our story, where did our bears live? In an apartment? In the ocean? In the jungle? No! In a house of course! Now, let's watch your teacher draw a house around the 3 bears. We need 4 sides for the walls, and we also need a roof, let's add a window and a door.
Now, we are going to work together to build a BIG Daddy Bear house. I will give 1 building block to everyone and we will take it turns to add a block to build a tall, tall house. And don’t worry if the house falls down, let’s be ‘Persevering Penguins’ and start all over again each time it falls down.
Finally, let's finish off with a song:
Activity 1: Today, we are going to draw a house of our own for the bears. Who is going to live in the house? Three bears! Can you remember who is in the bear family? If we are drawing a house for the bears, do you think it should be a BIG or SMALL house? Now it is time to draw…4 straight walls, just like a box. Then we need to add a roof. Look at your beautiful house, can you add the bear family to your house drawing?
Activity 2: Can you work together with your friends to use the building blocks to build a BIG Daddy Bear house? You will need to use your words to decide what shape and size of house you would like to build together.
Squiggle and Phonics
Squiggle- Today we are going to do the final dance in squiggle which is dance 9 the straight line. This dance will help to write letters like v, w and z. Shall we practice?
Phonics-Today we are going to be doing some robot talking with robot rick- . ‘Robot Rick went to the farm yesterday and took these pictures of the animals. We are going to listen to him robot-talk the animal names, so we can blend the sounds together and say them.’ Ask Robot Rick which animal he saw first. Robot-talk to the children. ‘P - i - g, p-i-g, pig.’ Now we can play ‘Spot the Animal!’ Every time we blend a word, can we make the animal sound and find (or point to) the animal picture?
This week we will be observing your child talking about and comparing different sizes, small, medium and large.
Makaton- This week in Makaton we are learning the signs for Beach, Mountain, River.
