Once Upon A Time
This term, we will learn to become storytellers and will focus on some traditional tales:
Goldilocks and the Three Bears
We also like singing:
Today we are going to read a story called ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears’
Let’s talk about the book?
What was the girl called in the book? That’s right, Goldilocks well done! Why do you think she is called Goldilocks? Because she has long golden, beautiful hair.
What did Goldilocks eat in the bowls in the Three Bears house? Yes, good job, porridge. Daddy Bear’s porridge was too salty. Mummy Bear’s porridge was too sweet. And Baby Bear’s porridge was just right - yummy, yummy!
Goldilocks found three chairs in the house. Who did the large chair belong to? Daddy Bear. Who did the medium chair belong to? Mummy Bear. Who did the small chair belong to? Baby Bear. What happened to the Baby Bear’s chair? That’s right, Goldilocks broke it, oh dear!
Goldilocks went upstairs and found three beds. What was wrong with Daddy Bear’s bed? It was too hard. And what was wrong with mummy bear’s bed? It was too soft. And Baby Bear’s bed was just right.
What happened at the end of the story? Goldilocks ran away! Do you think she was scared? I think so!
In small groups of four, we are going to act out the story of Goldilocks and The Three Bears.
We need one person to be Goldilocks, one to be Daddy Bear, one to be Mummy Bear, and one to be Baby Bear. Let’s put on our masks.
The teacher will read the book aloud, and you can all act out your parts.
We have a house, different-sized spoons, bowls, chairs, and beds. We can use these props to help us act out the story.
This week, we are learning all about Goldilocks. Can you remember how many bears were in the story? That’s right 3!
Baby Bear, Mummy Bear and Daddy Bear!
Can you show me 3 using your fingers?
Here is a song about the 3 bears!
Let’s meet number 3 from Numberblocks!
Finally, lets have a look at some objects. Can you subitise 1, 2 or 3?
Super Subitising!
We are going to work 1-1 with our teacher to look at different objects and subitise whether there are 1, 2 or 3 objects.
We will then circle the correct Numberblock.
This week we are learning the traditional tale of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
Let’s read the story one more time.
Look at this house —who do you think this house belongs to? That’s right, it’s the Three Bears’ h, h, house! ‘House’ starts with a ‘h’ sound. Let’s all say ‘house’ together—h, h, house!
Dance while the music plays, and when it stops, I’ll show you a picture. If the word starts with ‘h’, stand up. If it starts with a different sound, stay where you are. Let’s try—this is a h, h, hand! Does ‘hand’ start with the same sound as ‘house’? Let’s say it together—h, h, hand, h, h, house! We’ll keep going until we’ve seen all the pictures!
Let’s look at your board game—what pictures can you see? The pictures on the board match the ones on the cards. Now, listen carefully! I’m going to play some sounds from Goldilocks and the Three Bears Sound Bingo—what can you hear? Let’s talk about each sound. Do you have a picture on your board that matches what you heard? Find the right picture card and place it on top of the sound on your board!
What other sounds might you expect to hear in the story of ‘Goldilocks’? How could we make these sounds using our voices or bodies?
Can you remember what story we are learning about? That’s right ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears'. Let’s start the story together! Who do we have here, Three Bears: Daddy Bear, Mummy Bear and Baby Bear, and they went for a walk to let their porridge cool down…then who came along? Goldilocks! Now let’s follow the rest of the story with these sequencing cards.
Let’s look closely at each picture, how do you think the character is feeling?
We saw lots of emotions in that story: disgust, happy, surprised, angry, sad, scared. Let’s play an emotion game of our own, we can spin the wheel, and whichever emotion it lands on, can you make the same emotion on your faces?
Finally let’s sing this emotion song together:
Activity 1: Let’s play the spin the wheel emotions game in small groups together.
Activity 2: This week we are celebrating ‘Art Week’ so let’s take a tour of the school to look at all the selfie art work…say cheese…look at all of those happy faces!
Next week we are going to start reading! So we are all ready for Reception. Every week you will take home a different reading pack. Shall we have a look at a reading pack together? Have a look at one of the packs and open the book (make sure its one with the Robinson family members in) Oh look at all these new characters? Does anyone know who they are? Let’s learn their names.
Take some time look at one of the wordless books as a class. Talk about what's happening in the pictures.
Child led learning observations.
Settling back into school routines after the Songkran break.
Makaton- This week we will be learning the signs for Water, splash, play.
