Down in the Garden.
We will learn all about animals that live around our school, what plants need to grow and the importance of taking care of the natural environment and all living things.

This week we will continue to learn about 'Under the Sea' but will have a spread of STEAM challenges throughout the week that will follow these whole school themes:
Monday-Love Nature
Tuesday-Clean Our Seas
Wednesday-Healthy Eating
Thursday-Dress-up Day
This week is STEAM week each day we will be focusing on a different Sustainability Goal- Today we are focusing on Nature. We know a lot about Nature already with our ‘Down in the Garden’ topic. Can anybody tell me some things they can find in nature?
Lets read this Story about a little Fox who goes on a sensory walk in nature.
Now in our small groups we will go on a nature sensory walk in Ruby’s garden and we are going to be taking the ipads to take pictures. Does anybody know how to use the ipads to take a picture? Demonstrate how to hold and use the ipads for the children.
TECHNOLOGY-In small groups of 4-5 go for a walk around the Eco/Ruby’s garden. Stop and think about the things you can smell, hear, see and feel. Take the iPads to take photos of different things which can be shared on the big screen back in the classroom.
Look at our ocean today! What do you see in the water? There are some fish swimming... but oh no! What else is in our sea? I see some rubbish; bottles, plastic, and paper. Do sea animals eat rubbish? No! That’s not food for them. Rubbish in the water can make them very sick.
Some of our sea animals are stuck! Look, this turtle is trapped in plastic, and this little fish is caught. They need our help! What can we do? Let’s work together to free them. You can use your hands to peel off the tape carefully. Can you rescue the animals?
Now, let’s clean the ocean! Use your net to scoop out the rubbish. What did you find? A bottle? A piece of paper? Let’s take it out so our sea friends can swim safely.
To help save our ocean, we need a boat! But what can we use as a boat? Let’s think—what kinds of things float on water?
Activity 1: SCIENCE-Look at these different objects. I have some sponges, bottle caps, corks, and paper. Do you think they will float or sink? Let’s test them! Place one in the water, does it stay on top or go to the bottom?
Activity 2: ENGINEERING-Now, let’s build our own boats! What materials will make the best boat? Can your boat float on the water? Let’s see if it can carry something, like a small toy. If it sinks, what can we change to make it better?
Today we are learning about healthy eating.
Can anyone tell me some healthy foods to eat? and what are some unhealthy foods to eat?
Let’s take a look at this video to help us learn what foods are good for us.
Let’s make two rows on the carpet. One for unhealthy foods and one for healthy foods. Everyone can have a turn to pick a food from the bag, decide whether it is healthy or unhealthy and then put it in the ‘unhealthy’ or ‘healthy’ row.
Activity 1: ART-We are all going to do fruit and vegetable painting. We have some delicious fruit and vegetables which I have already cut. We also have different colours of paint. We can try putting the different fruits and vegetables into different colours of paint and stamping them onto the paper. What shapes and patterns did it make? Do the different fruits and vegetables make different patterns? Which ones do you like?
Let’s all make a beautiful fruit and vegetable patterned drawing.
Activity 2: MATHS-We are going to do a Crocodile Tooth Counting Game. I have a stick with some fish at the end. We can press the stick down on the crocodile's teeth and count the teeth as we go. What number of teeth did we count before the crocodile snapped?
For our Makaton signs this week, we are learning bicycle, car and airplane.
This week, we are learning a new move! The Wave!
Check out dance number 7 on our slides.
We’ve been under the sea this week for our STEAM week! Let’s use our scarves to pretend we are big waves on the ocean.
For our Dough Disco this week, we are going to roll and pinch to different pirate songs!
Understanding the World
Our Tapestry focus this week is all STEAM themed!
Talk about and explore a variety of experiments.
Make predictions.
Answer why and how questions.
