People In Our Community
We will learn about all the people who help us in our school community.
Core Story: Whose Hands Are These?
Core Song: What do you do?
We also like singing:
Shapes are everywhere! We can find them all around us—at school, on our clothes, in our classrooms, and even in the food we eat. Can you remember the names of these shapes?
Let’s sing a fun shape song to refresh our memory about all the shapes we’ve been learning.
Now, it’s time to play the “Everyday 2D Shapes” game!
Now it's time to take on a fun challenge—let's create our very own picture using a variety of shapes!
This week, we are looking at another person who helps us in school. You will see them every morning as you come to school and even during the school day.
They help you cross the road into school.
They direct your cars.
They open the gate for us.
They catch snakes for us!
They help to keep us safe.
Who could it be?
That’s right! It’s our Security Guards!
Look they have a special badge.
We are going to make our own special security guard badges today.
I wonder what shapes you will choose. Can anyone remember the name of any shapes from yesterday?
Let's look inside our magic bag. Pull out a shape. Can the children name the shape? Can you count the sides with me?
We are going to make our own special security guard badges today.
Choose a sticker shape.
What shape have you chosen?
Let’s decorate your shape using different coloured marker pens.
This is your security badge! We will wear it tomorrow when we are security guards for the day!
Who can remember who we are learning about this week?
Let’s watch this reveal to see who we can find!
That’s right we are learning about our school Security Guards.
I have something here to show you, can you guess what it is? It is a snake catcher! Let me show you how it works! Who else would like to have a try?
Let’s learn a little more about snakes:
Let’s move like a snake and some more animals in this song:
Today, we have an exciting morning planned! We are going to meet our Security Guards! We will meet them outside the gate, and they will show us how they blow their whistles and wave their flags. Then they will show us how to catch a snake (don’t worry—it is a toy snake!). Finally, we will make a line outside the gate, and the Security Guards will check our ID before we get to swipe into the school.
This week, what have we been learning about? Who did we meet yesterday? Yes, it was the Security Guards, well done!
What things did the Security Guards teach us? Can we remember?
The Security Guards showed us to blow a whistle. Let’s all blow our whistles together. Wow, so loud!
The Security Guards also showed us how to wave a flag. Can I have two special volunteers to come and show me how the Security Guards waved their flag?
The Security Guards checked our ID Badges and then we had to scan them to go through the gate to enter the school. Can I have a very special volunteer to be the Security Guard checking the ID badges and another very special volunteer to show their ID Badge to the Security Guard and scan it to go through the gate.
The Security Guards showed us how to catch a snake. Can I have another two very special volunteers to show me how the Security Guards caught a snake?
Let’s sing our Snake Song that we learnt yesterday.
Activity 1
Let’s set up a role play Security Guard area in the classroom. We can all pretend we are Security Guards by wearing our hats and blowing our whistles. We can catch snakes using our toy snakes, snake catchers and bags. Also, we can check ID Badges and scan them to go through the gate. Being a Security Guard is so much fun.
Activity 2
Let’s practise writing our names. Using magnetic letters can we find the letters in our name and join then together to spell out our names. Now can we try writing our name on a label, copying the magnetic letters. Then we can stick our name onto our whistle so we know who it belongs to and we can take it home.
This week in Makaton we will be learning the signs for-Red, yellow, orange
