Art Week Across Asia
In Term Three, we will celebrate Art Week with all our friends! Each class will showcase their artwork in a special window display. All the Nursery classes will represent different countries across Asia.
Art Work
Can you guess which country we will be representing? Is it China, Indonesia, Japan, or Thailand? Let’s get to work and use our creativity to craft a beautiful project inspired by this special country!
Today, we are going to learn about Songkran, which is the Thai New Year Festival. Let’s read a story together to learn more about Songrkan.
Do you celebrate Songkran?
What things do you do to celebrate Songkran?
Have you ever taken part in a big water fight?
Songkran is the Thai New Year. In Thai we say Sawadee Pee Mai meaning Happy New Year. Can we all try saying it together?
Let learn a Songkran Dance
Activity 1 (Maths)
We are going to do a water activity. We can play with the water outside and use our jugs, tubes and other water toys to pour, measure and play.
Activity 2 (Art)
For Art Week, all the nursery classes are going to do an individual craft to represent the country they are learning about for Art Week.
Zebras - Japan
Butterflies - China
Elephants - India
Monkeys - Indonesia
Lets listen to this sound- What do you hear?
That's right its rain! This week we are celebrating
Songkran. Songkran signifies the end of the dry season and the start of the rainy season.
What kind of noises do you think you might hear during rainy season. (encourage children to identify the sounds they might hear, drip drop, splash, rumble, bang, etc)
Let’s sing this song about rain:
We are going to take it in turns to stand under an umbrella and close our eyes. Listen carefully to what is falling on the umbrella. (use leaves, pencils, foam blocks and water) Can you guess when the water if falling on the umbrella without looking? How can you tell that was water, how did it sound?
Makaton Signs of the Week:
This week, we are continuing our Dance 8 - The Laid Down 8 which will help us draw the letter S.
After that, let’s have a go at putting our laid down 8 to paper.
For our Dough Disco this week, let’s party like a pirate!
