People In Our Community
We will learn about all the people who help us in our school community.
Core Story: Whose Hands Are These?
Core Song: What do you do?

Today, we’re starting an exciting new topic: People Who Help Us! Let’s begin by reading the book Whose Hands Are These? together and discover all the different helpers in the story.
Wasn’t that a fun story? Now, let’s imagine—what do you want to be when you grow up?
Now, we’ll play a guessing game! Can you figure out what job each person in the story has?
Finally, let’s think about the grown-ups who help us at school every day. Can you tell me what their jobs are and how they help us?
We’re going on a special walk around the school! As you explore, look for adults who work here. Who are they? What jobs do they do?
Use the iPad to take a photo of each helper you meet.
When we’re back, we’ll print the photos and create a wonderful display in our classroom to show everyone who helps us at school!
Let’s read our topic book again today and see if we can guess all the people who help us in our community!
Let’s get our thinking hat on! We eat snacks and lunch in school, but who makes us this food? That’s right the school chef, his name is Chef Tan, can you see him in the picture? Today we are going to go on a special trip to the kitchen to visit Chef Tan and to make some cookies! How exciting.
Let’s sing and act out a song. I need 5 children to be chocolate cookie volunteers to stand at the front. Now I will hand out 5 coins. If you have a coin you are going to buy the cookies. Your teacher will be the baker shop cashier! Now we can chant this song together!
5 Chocolate Cookies
5 chocolate cookies in the baker's shop,
Big and round with chocolate on the top,
Along came (name a child with a coin) with a penny one day,
Bought the chocolate cookie and took it away.
Activity 1: Let’s decorate some cookies of our own:
Activity 2: Today we will go to the school canteen to make, decorate and eat some chocolate cookies with Chef Tan.
Today, we are going to learn how to subitize up to 5. Let’s play a game with Jack Hartman - can you say how many you see? Can you show the number on your fingers as well?
Next we will play a game Word Wall game - tell me how many you see? Can you show the number on your fingers as well?
Well done everyone, that was amazing counting!
Who likes cookies? Let’s watch a song about yummy cookies
Look what I have. What is this called? That’s right, a cookie jar and what are these called? Well done, cookies.
I am going to give everyone a number and we can play another game. Let's roll the dice. What number is it? If your cookie has the same number you can put it in the cookie jar.
Let's play again...
Roll the dice.
Can you recognise the number of spots?
Can you find the cookie with the same number of chocolate chips?
Can you recognise the number of chocolate chips without counting? (subitising)
Stick your cookies into your cookie jar.
Today we are going to look at syllables. This means how many beats each word has. I wonder if you can clap each syllable with me. Let’s practise with our names.
Miss A-my. Miss Je-ssi-ca. How many claps?
Now we are going to try with different foods. Can you clap the syllables for our breakfast order?
We’ve also got some of our favourite phonics songs to sing. I wonder which one we will choose today.

Today we are going to look at creating a letter sound plate. Our lunch can only contain foods that start with the same letter sound. This is called alliteration.
What would you like to put on your plate?
Today we are celebrating Children's Day with our friends from Hand to Hand Foundation.
This week we will be doing 'The Hump' in our squiggle dance. Can you first dance with your flappers?
Child-led learning focus. This week we will be seeing how your child has settled back into school after the holiday.
