Marvellous Me
We will learn all about ourselves, our families, our school and about being part of our Nursery class.
Core Story: Families, Families, Families
Core Song: Magic Words
Today, we are learning one of the five senses - 'hearing'. Our ears are for listening so, let’s turn on our listening ears and listen to some sounds in the classroom.
Now, let’s read a story together called 'Peace at Last' by Jill Murphy.
Time for a fun game! We need to use our listening ears and guess what sounds we can hear? Ready?
Let’s get our shakers we made earlier and make some noise! Can you show me how to shake loudly? Now show me quietly. Let’s play along with our shakers to this song.
We are going to make music shakers using toilet rolls, beans, and rice. We will decorate them with stickers and then shake them to hear the different sounds.
Let's play kim's Game
Who would like to join me at the phonics table? I need four volunteers!
Great! Now, take a close look at all the toys on the tray. Try to remember each one.
Ready? Close your eyes while I cover them with a blanket. I’m going to remove one toy.
Okay, open your eyes! Can you figure out which toy is missing? Let’s see how well you remember!
Let’s read our ‘Don’t Tickle a…’ story, and see if you can spot your class animal in the book!
In our book, we used our sense of touch to tickle the different animals! How did the animals feel?
Let’s sing this next song together and listen out for some different texture names that we can feel:
We heard some great texture words there, can anyone recall what they were; hard, soft, rough, smooth, hot and cold!
Now I have popped all the items from our song into my magic bag. Can someone come and help me to pick out one item? How does it feel? Is it hard or soft?
Let’s go outside on a sense scavenger hunt! We’ll use our senses to find fluffy clouds, scented flowers, and buzzing insects. Each of you will have a clipboard and a colourful checklist to help you. Remember to pay attention to what you see, smell, touch and hear as we explore.
This week we have been learning all about our 5 senses, which senses have we learnt about so far; hearing, sight and touch. Today we are learning all about our sense of smell!
What do we use to smell, let’s play this game to see if it can give us a clue!
That’s right, we use our noses to smell. Let’s share this information book about smelling:
Finally, let’s play this fun game together, do you think these smell good or bad?
Today we have 3 different smells; apple, flowers and lemon. Can you use your nose to take a big sniff in? What do you think you can smell? You can either point to the picture or say the smell that you can smell. Were you right?
This week we will be following your child's interest and observing what they have enjoyed learning in their classrooms.
Let’s check out our Makaton Signs for the week: Happy, Sad & Angry
