Marvellous Me
We will learn all about ourselves, our families, our school and about being part of our Nursery class.
Core Story: Families, Families, Families
Core Song: Magic Words
Today we are learning all about families.
Let’s watch Daniel Tiger and his family as they go to the library and meet lots of different families.
Now it’s your turn! We’ll look at your family photos on the big screen, and you can show your friends who is in your family. Whose family is this? Can you point to each person and tell us who they are?
Next, we’ll sing a special family song together
Now let’s use our fingers to learn the Family Finger Song. Who can show me Daddy Finger? Mummy Finger? Brother Finger? Sister Finger? Baby Finger?
We are going to make our very own special cards to take home and give to our families!
We can use all the sparkly, sticky, and colorful things on the table to make our cards look amazing.
Who will your card be for? Mummy, Daddy, Grandma, or someone else you love?
Would you like some help to write a little message inside your card?
Who can remember the special people that we are learning about? That’s right, our families.
Let’s have another look at our family pictures from yesterday. Can you remember whose family this is?
Let’s learn the different Makaton signs for our family members:
Now we can share this lovely story all about families:
Let’s look at our table. What can you see? I can see we have stuck a shape onto the table, what shape can you see...yes, it is a house shape! Do you live in a house? Or maybe an apartment? Who lives in your house with you? If you can’t remember, we can have a look at your family photo to remind us. Now, let’s use our loose parts to create all our family members who live in our home. Maybe you have a pet dog or cat too, don’t forget them! Now you can tell your teacher all about your loose part family that you have created?
Today we are going to be doing some subitising.
Play a subitising finger game to start, hide your hands behind your back then show the children and ask them to subitise how many fingers you are holding up. Now lets join in with this subitising song.
We all have different families with different amounts of people, shall we see how many people are in these families?
Look closely at your family photo. Can you count how many people are in your family and stick the correct number of dots to match on your house outline?
Today, friends, we are going to talk about our families. Let’s start by learning a song about families together.
Now, let’s look at the big screen. I am going to draw my family inside this house shape. Look, here is me, here is my family. Let’s count together—how many people are in my family? Who are they? After we look at my picture, you will have a turn to share about your family too.
