Understanding Interdisciplinary Research
With an abundance of complex problems to solve, it’s no surprise that interdisciplinary research (IDR) is in demand. Yet, there is no common understanding of what IDR actually is, nor how to do it. In this project, we present an understanding of IDR as a collaborative endeavour between researchers of different disciplinary backgrounds. We also propose a descriptive framework that outlines the process of IDR, discusses points to consider when conducting IDR, and makes allowances for the wide variety of shapes and sizes that IDR comes in.

The Historical and Social Contingency of Disciplines
Our project aims to delve into Greek and Chinese civilizations through the scholarly works of an exemplar in each, in order to explain the social and cultural factors which bred their work, the worldviews they held, and how this might relate to how modern science has been disciplinized. Our intention is to show that disciplines are often socially constructed, and very much dependent on local knowledge systems. This project may therefore reaffirm growing doubts about the Eurocentrism of modern science.
