Open rivers, Happy planet

Art

Artworks that center around visual modes of expression are something that almost anyone can relate to, interact with and enjoy. The aim of our project is to give an informative insight into the intricacies of fish migration and the importance of free-flowing rivers, while appealing to people’s visual interest. We created a webpage that compiles the noteworthy facts about fish migration, displays our artworks, and showcases the instagram posts we made to advertise World Fish Migration Day this year. Our focus was to create pieces that sparked the curiosity and glee that can be experienced on this interesting day of the year.

Education

Within the Open Rivers Project, we were the “Educational Group”. Our goal was to spread awareness about the importance of free-flowing rivers, with our target group being younger school children. To achieve this goal, we created a stop-motion video about a fish and his migration journey. We created this video in a way that younger children would find it entertaining, whilst learning from it. In addition, we asked the children to draw and colour in fish pictures, and then we compiled these drawings into a video. In this way, the children were also able to contribute to our project.

Interview

In order to raise awareness for the importance of healthy, free-flowing rivers for human and natural systems, we decided to create a website that features personal, as well as professional perspectives on the topic. We conducted interviews with experts, researched facts and figures and hosted a creative-writing challenge for the more intimate and personal part. We hope that this mixed approach can inspire many people to care about our rivers. Check it out and spread the link!
