Role-playing game

Aim of the role-playing game

The aim of the role-playing game is to make the students experience doing a multi-stakeholder assessment in a real research scenario. Each student will play a role of one of the stakeholders involved in the DPIA process. This experience will help the students to apply the concepts learned in the online training or in the class lecture. The game will help the students in taking into account the perspectives of the other people involved in the process.

To prepare the game section the teacher may provide the description of the case and some questions/dilemmas related to the case. To support the students during the game we designed a set of role cards and concept cards. You can can find both sets in English and in Dutch below.

Finally, we also have a teacher roadmap in English and stappenplan in Dutch to help you.

Role cards

The role cards represent the most important stakeholder that should be involved in the Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA) session, such as the researcher, the lawyer, the IT expert, etc. The cards help the students to know the different stakeholders and why their knowledge is relevant for the DPIA session. What is more, each card provides a list of questions tailored for the role to help the player in acting his/her role in the game.

Concept cards

The concept cards are designed to make the students familiar with the most relevant topic such as: pseudonymization, data subject rights, data processing etc. The cards can be provided to the players in advance or can be used during the role-playing game by the teacher or the student assistants to guide the conversation between the students. We have all concept cards in English and in Dutch.
