From the airport, we strongly recommend to take the train to Groningen. You may follow these steps.
Follow the signs that say Trains, to end up at a large, central plaza.
Find one of the NS ticket booths (they are bright yellow with blue), and purchase a ticket to Groningen. (If you travel in a group, you may also be eligible to use a "NS Groepsticket," and this can save some money, Consult this webpage for more information and the relevant terms and conditions.)
There are now two options as for which train you can take. Both trains run hourly, and are timed so that one departs half an hour after the other. Consult the overhead signs to see which train runs when, and from which platform it departs, or use this Google Maps link to see the departure board.
Direct train to Groningen.
Train to Leeuwarden. You will need to change trains in Zwolle, to the train that brings you to Groningen. Usually the train to Groningen from Zwolle will be across from your arrival platform in Zwolle, and their departures are coordinated. Make sure to double-check with the overhead signs at Zwolle station.
Do not throw away your ticket after purchase and/or validation by train staff! You may be checked again, and you will need the ticket in order to exit at Groningen station.
After about ~2hrs of train travel, you should arrive in Groningen!
There are essentially two options to reach the Martini hotel from the station.
Go on foot. This should be a ~15 minute walk from the station to the hotel.
Take a bus. The bus stop Gedempte Zuiderdiep sits right in front of the Martini hotel. Various buses, such as bus 1, depart from the station and stop here. Regarding paying for the bus, there are two methods:
Tapping your card to the ticket machine on the bus (at its entrance). This "checks you in" to the bus, and you will need to "check out" by tapping the same card again once you disembark. Some credit/debit cards are accepted for this, and some are not. This also requires an app, check this website for further details.
Buying your ticket via the 9292 app. You can download it from your favorite app store, or consult their website here. Input the respective origin and destination, and follow the steps to obtain your ticket (credit card accepted).
Alternatively, at the west end of the station there are taxis available.
For participants staying at Martini Hotel, there will be LOC members who will travel with you to the venue. Please see the Location & Venue page for further information regarding this.
After reaching the main station, the easiest option is to use the bus to get to the venue.
Navigate to Groningen main station (use the map above). Depending on the location of your accommodation, going by foot or by bus is the quickest way to do so.
