The University Research Agenda defines the thematic priorities that guide the institution’s research directions. These focus areas address local, national, and international development needs while maximizing RTU’s expertise and resources:

RESEARCH-RELEVANT PROJECTS AND INITIATIVES

Research Colloquia and Fora – The office organizes periodical research colloquia and three research fora, providing platforms for faculty and students to present findings, exchange ideas, and receive feedback from peers and experts.
Research Conference – This flagship event brings together local and international researchers to showcase cutting-edge studies and strengthen professional networks.
Research-oriented Internship and OJT Immersion Programs – Collaborating with industries and agencies, RDIO facilitates research-based internships to enhance students’ practical competencies.
Student Research Assistance – Providing guidance, mentorship, and resources to undergraduate and graduate researchers.
Research and Publication Incentives – Recognizing faculty and students whose works are published in reputable journals or presented at conferences.
University Research Language and Translation – Bridging linguistic barriers by translating research materials for local and international dissemination.
Science & Technology (S&T) Funded Projects – Overseeing externally funded projects, with two already completed and five ongoing.
Research Facilities Development – Establishing laboratories, such as the 3D Printing Lab and the Center for Data Science and Analytics.

Space Science and Technology Research

Through the Center for Astronomy Research and Development (CARD), RTU has positioned itself as a key contributor to the Philippines’ space exploration efforts. Hosting national events such as the DOST Space Science Summit 2025, CARD leads projects like the Observation of Geospatial Integrated Environment (OGIE) and Safety Analysis for RTU Land Use Vulnerability and Evaluation (SALVE), showcasing the university’s growing expertise in geospatial analysis, satellite technology, and astronomical observation.

Food Innovation and Sustainable Agriculture

The Mushroom Biotechnology Research and Development Unit (MBRDU) has successfully cultivated twelve edible mushroom species, promoting sustainable food technologies and local livelihood development. Its DOST-NCR funded innovations the Solar-Powered Mushroom House and the Semi-Automatic Bagging Machine have strengthened RTU’s partnerships with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and the City of Pasig, contributing to food security and community empowerment. Meanwhile, the Urban Agriculture Research and Development Unit (UARDU) has improved urban food systems through vertical and horizontal farming technologies, seedling production, and partnerships with local schools and government units fostering resilience and self-sufficiency in urban communities.

Intellectual Property and Research Integrity

The Intellectual Property Management Center (IPMC) safeguards the intellectual creations of RTU’s researchers through effective IP registration, patenting, and training programs that enhance IP literacy among faculty and students. Complementing this, the Research Publication Center (RPC) upholds the integrity and global visibility of RTU’s scholarly outputs by overseeing peer-reviewed journals, ensuring ethical research through similarity checks, and guiding authors through the publication process.

Technology Transfer and Commercialization

RTU’s Technology Transfer and Commercialization Center (TTCC) has been instrumental in transforming research discoveries into market-ready products and community-driven innovations. Notably, the commercialization of urban planting structures and mushroom-based products has extended the university’s research benefits beyond academia, creating real economic and social value.

Policy and Development Studies

The Social Needs, Governance, and Research Center for Development Studies (SNGRCDS) serves as RTU’s policy think tank, conducting research that informs governance reforms, socio-economic planning, and legislative advocacy. Its collaborative work with government agencies, NGOs, and academic partners ensures that research contributes directly to evidence-based policymaking and inclusive development.
