We had a wonderful fono hosted by the Malaga Fa'atasi – Aerenga Akururu team at Te Pai o Kura in West Auckland. A special thank you to Morag, Jeanie and Tricia for putting on a lovely day of food, fun and Pacific professional development.
It was great to hear from Eng Leong Lim as he shared his leadership wisdom that he has gained over the years before he leaves the RTLB service. We all wish him well on the next part of his journey.
A wonderful cultural refresh and we look forward to the next Tautai Pacific RTLB fono.

Sending you the warmest of Pacific greetings on these chilly days!!
I was very honoured and privileged to visit RTLB Cluster 28 in Wellington last week to visit the 'O Matagi o le Pasefika' group. What a pleasure to spend some time with RTLB who are motivated to supporting their colleagues and our Pacific communities.
We had a great discussion abour Pacific pedagogy and ways to engage colleagues around the 9 Pacific values in the Tapasaā document.
It was a very productive fono and I look forward to returning again in the future!

Tālofa lava Tautai Team
Hopefully your term is off to a positive start, I imagine you are all well into the term busy with case work now.
I was so excited to see Bryan and Rose visit Chapel Downs, thank you for making the time and effort to come out.
Omgosh! Fa'afetai tele lava for the gorgeous and thoughtful mealofa. I love the "Mana of the Pacific" book. I will be all the wiser and it's so meaningful being gifted from you all. The quotes in here are also on photos of our students around the school. You are all so very generous. I'll think carefully about what I buy and share with you what I get.
I will miss you all, especially at the end of term when I looked forward to our fun, warm fono, full of laughter, discussions and how we can nurture our Pacific spaces.
Just a bit about my new school. Chapel Downs Primary School and Chapel Downs Junior College are two schools under one Principal. The school is a lovely, warm school where I feel very lucky to be at. The leadership team is wonderful and wellbeing is at the forefront where the students, staff and community, supportive and positive and working together. I'm privileged to work alongside great leadership.
The Primary School consists of approx. 800 students and over 100 staff. In 2027, we aim to start with 200 year 7 students and roll out a cohort each year up to year 10. We have 53% Pacific students (majority Samoan) and 16% Maori students. Our South East Asian population is growing as our zones are widening to support the growing Ormiston region. We have 8% Pakeha. Interestingly, Chapel used to have approx. 80% Pacific students so the community is changing.
Our team is at the very beginning brainstorming, planning, visiting schools, shopping for furniture... there's a lot to think about. But I'm learning heaps. I am so excited to be a part of shaping the school.
Also, we are advertising for amazing teachers. If you know of any great teachers that would love to teach year 7, please ask them to send their CV through and let me know. We would love to hear from them. Out of 100 staff we have one Pacific teacher on staff who is currently on maternity leave and then there is me so I would love to meet more Pacific teachers.

Chapel Downs Junior College
Tautai Pacific RTLB Fono 1
RTLB Cluster 7 hosted our first Tautai Pacific RTLB Fono for 2026. We met at Tupu'anga Cafe on a stormy day skipped the walk and went straight to the Auckland Museum in Central Auckland.
In Term 2, we will be heading out to West Auckland to Cluster 5.

At our first Tautai+ RTLB fono, our three speakers; Ashley Ah-Mann, Angelik Fruean and Tony Nemaia shared their stories and how they related to our Pacific theme of 'Belonging'.
