The MHS school counselors hope you all had a fun and relaxing winter break! We are excited for 2026 and all of the opportunities it will bring. It’s hard to believe we are almost halfway through this school year. Take advantage of the remaining weeks of the quarter and semester to finish strong!
The New Year can bring feelings of hope and positivity as well as pressure to compare yourself to others and make resolutions. Here are some New Year's resolutions centered around self-care!
Last month, Nick Tucker, a Noble High School graduate, spoke to the entire student body about the power of resiliency. Students then did an activity in advisory where they identified a challenge, a strategy to work through the challenge, and supports they can lean on. See the word clouds below for the most common challenges and supports students Identified!
Nick Tucker created a packet to share with our students to highlight his story and provide helpful resources. All students received this packet electronically. In addition, Mrs. Edson (9th grade school counselor) visited History classes to work through the packet and do a writing exercise.
Mid-year exams begin on January 20th. Across these four days, we will have an open campus and students do not have to be present for usually scheduled study halls. Students may also arrive late or leave early, if they have transportation. Buses will run at their normal times to drop off and collect students and the cafeteria will be used as a waiting area for students until transportation arrives. Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
❄️ In the event of a snow day, the exam schedule will move forward one day (Exams on Tuesday, January 20th will occur on Wednesday, January 21st, etc.).
If you are a Career Tech student, Mrs. Lontine will post in your Google Classroom about how the midterm schedule will line up with your CTC program!
Exam week can be a time of stress and anxiety for many. It's important to focus on ways to balance yourself in preparation for this increase in academics. Here's some tips!
Are you feeling the weight of midterm exams on your shoulders?
The school counseling department is offering drop-in stress relief activities during the open campus period during midterms week (Tuesday, January 20th - Friday, January 23rd)! Activities will be held in Ms. Leboeuf's office (D202)!
Activities that will be offered will include aromatherapy putty, glitter jars, and DIY fidget toys!
Please sign up using the form below - you will have until Friday, January 16 to complete this form.
Last month, sophomores received a presentation all about Career Technical programs at Sanford and Dover. Current SRTC students did an excellent job answering questions and explaining their accomplishments in their programs!

With the new year on the horizon, the start of the spring semester will be here in no time. January 20th is the start date for most Early College classes through the UMaine System. With that in mind, the UMS Early College counselors will be holding course prep sessions in the upcoming weeks to help you prepare for your class(es). Register for your preferred Spring 2026 online prep session with UMaine Early College now!
They strongly encourage that all Early College students enrolled in an upcoming spring course register for one of these sessions, as they will be covering critical information like accessing your UMaine account, using your UMaine email and Brightspace, and ordering course materials.
You can register for a session using this sign-up form.
Once you have registered for your preferred session date and time, UMaine Early College Counselor Seth Ordway, will email you with a Zoom meeting link and reminder. This meeting link will be sent to the email address provided in the sign-up form either the day before or the morning of your session.*
*In order to receive your meeting link in time please make sure that you register for your prep session at least 24 hrs beforehand.
If you are taking a college class through the University of Maine Orono, you will need to opt out of an AMP (Academic Materials Program) fee either before or when your course begins. Below is more information:
The opt out option will be made available to students starting one full week prior to the start of the upcoming semester.
Once within that week prior to the start date, to get to the opt out page, they need to be able to access their class in Brightspace. Since most instructors wait until the start date of the class to post their materials, this means opting out is something most will be able to do on that first day.
They will be given a "Buy Now" option immediately following opting out where they can purchase any required materials for their course (it will also tell them if they do not have any required materials)
To opt out of this program and have the automated charge removed from your account:
Navigate to your Brightspace account. You can access Brightspace from mycampus.maine.edu.
Click on “Tools” in the navbar at the top.
Click on AMP/Inclusive Access in the drop down menu that appears. It will bring you to the page where you can see all your assigned course materials.
At the top right of that page, click on the button that says, “opt out”.
After opting out, students will see a “Buy Now” button option if they would like to purchase individual textbooks.
If you need any assistance with this or do not see the “opt out” button, please contact the UMaine Bookstore directly at 207.581.1728.
