The Riverside Adult Education Partnership represents a collaborative effort on the part of local school systems to provide services to adult learners in their communities. As a result of this partnership, we are better able to provide to our communities a greater variety of academic, personal enrichment and vocational skills courses. Community partners include: Alton, Bradley, Frankfort, Glenburn, Greenbush, Hampden, Hermon, Indian Island, Milford, Newburgh, Old Town, Orono, Winterport, Veazie, and the Penobscot County Jail.

Riverside Director Rebecca Cross has a long and varied career in education, ranging from teaching elementary school in Maine to Business English classes in Mexico (with lots of stops along the way!). Rebecca treasures the honor of helping students take the next step in their academic, career and life goals. She loves the unique work of adult education, where each student is the author of their academic plan.
Hello everyone. I’m Desirée Butterfield-Nagy, the new Program Advisor for Riverside Adult Education. I recently retired from the position of librarian / archivist at the University of Maine. I started my career as an English teacher and have been involved in education at various levels for the last thirty years. I love the outdoors, coffee, and jigsaw puzzles. I look forward to many discussions about your goals, your stories, and what our program can do to support you.
My name is Sue St Louis, and I have been the Guidance Secretary at the Old Town High School since 2004. In 2008 I started working with the Riverside Adult Education program as a Site Coordinator in the Old Town office. I have found it extremely rewarding to be a part of an excellent group of people who genuinely care about helping others succeed in getting a diploma and bettering their lives. In my spare time I love to go on hikes and walks with my family and dogs.
Hi, I’m Kai Ksyniak, a recently retired Alternative Education Teacher. I’ll be working with Riverside Adult as Education primarily as a math tutor and general tutor. My talent is meeting students where they’re at and figuring out how I can help them. I live in Old Town and work part time at the Old Town Public Library where I run a Murder Mystery book club. My hobbies are reading, long walks, theatre and movies.
My name is Bethany Smith, and I am the site coordinator for Hampden. I come from a non-traditional education background, and have been involved in education at many age levels since 2009. In my spare time I enjoy sewing, hiking, making art, learning new things, spending time with my family, and playing story driven video games.
My name is Ludmilla, and I am the Multilingual Learner Instructor for Riverside Adult Education. Having lived in Ireland and England for over 15 years before moving to the US in 2021, I bring a personal understanding of the language-learning journey to my work in our libraries and office. I earned my CELTA teaching certification in Oxford, England, in 2010 and have extensive experience as an early years educator as well. I love getting to know my students and tailoring our lessons — whether focusing on pronunciation or grammar — to help them reach their specific goals. In my spare time, I enjoy gardening, practicing yoga, playing the piano, and attending my local knitting group. I also love staying active outdoors with my two children, including skiing and skating on wild ice.
Hi, I am Jessica Archer, a middle school teacher at Orono Middle School where I teach 6th grade ELA, 7th grade life science and 8th grade health. I have a master’s degree and a certificate of advanced study in special education. I recently became a National Board Certified Teacher. I have been teaching adult education for two years. I am currently teaching English and tutoring students in math and English. In my spare time, I like to read, exercise, bake and garden.
