An Independent Study gives you the opportunity to explore a topic, skill, or career interest in greater depth than is typically possible in a traditional class.
You choose a topic, project, skill, or area of interest you want to learn more about.
You develop a learning goal and create a project that helps you meet that goal.
You work with a mentor to plan your learning and track your progress.
You complete research, hands-on work, or other learning activities related to your project.
You keep a journal documenting your work and reflecting on what you learn.
Spend time each week working on your project.
Meet regularly with your mentor and teacher.
Document your progress in a journal.
Create a final product, presentation, or demonstration of your learning.
Share what you accomplished at the end of the semester.
How many credits will I receive?
You can earn up to 1 credit per semester depending on the number of hours you work on it.
Your grade is pass/fail and is based on effort, completion of your learning goals, documentation of your work, and communication with your mentor and teacher.
