SELF PORTRAITS

Students learn how to draw a portrait using measurements of the halfway-halfway-halfway rule. Student then will work on using value mapping and watercolor to create a final self portrait.

SHAPE TO FORM

This is one of my favorite lessons where we spend our time understanding how to create the illusion of depth with shading. We learn how to take simple shapes and turn them into forms on paper. We do a lot of skill building in this unit, but balance it with some watercolor experimentation to loosen us up.

Color and Composition

Students explore their understanding of color by doing color challenges and inventing colors with watercolor and acrylic paints. Students will understand what composition in art looks like and how to use the element of color to create a final artwork.
