Who is Ms. Lasdin?

When I am not in the classroom you will find me adventuring in the outdoors, sketching, and painting the landscapes of Maine.

I grew up in California and moved to Maine 16 years ago with my daughter and husband. I am a recent graduate of Maine College of Art's Master Teaching program and previously came from a corporate position working on visual store layout and design.

I also enjoy cooking, paddling, biking, and gardening.

Philosophy & Standards

I believe in creating an art studio in which my students can express themselves, take ownership of their own learning, and gain life skills. My approach provides the tools students need to succeed by using exploration and expectations.

Each class is based on the curriculum and environment for learning based on the National Art Standards: CREATING, PRESENTING, RESPONDING, and CONNECTING. Check out the details here.

Grades

We will do a variety of work throughout the Quarter/Semester that lead up to final projects. These small assignments are to help teach skills and prepare students for success in their final project and will be weighted smaller than the final work.

  • Classwork 25% of Final Grade (these assignments are to be completed during class time)

  • Sketch Assignments 25% of Final Grade (these assignments most likely will be able to be accomplished in class, however some students may need to continue working as homework-these assignments directly affect their work habits and citizenship)

  • Project 50% of Final Grade (these assignments are the Final Projects in a Unit and will have a good portion of classes dedicated to help students through completion)

Extra Credit: At the end of each UNIT students will have the opportunity to create an extra credit assignment outside of class time to help make up missing work from the previous unit.
