In order to qualify for the National Honor Society, you must meet the academic and GPA requirements for the Altus Marus Chapter.
Once qualified, you must submit a resume that demonstrates your accomplishments in the areas of scholarship, leadership, character, and service.
Resume
A sample resume is provided for structure, but this format may be changed however you think best shows your qualifications for the National Honor Society. The committee will seek evidence of the pillars of leadership, character, and service in and out of the classroom. Classroom leadership can be listed, but it will also be shared on the teacher survey. All community service listed must contain contact info (email or phone #) for an adult supervisor who is not related to you.
Essay (Optional)
An optional personal essay of 250-500 words should provide the committee with information without which your application would be incomplete. The essay must address one of the areas (leadership, character, or service) that you don't believe is adequately represented on your resume.
Community Service
15-17 community service hours are required to join NHS. These should be logged with guidance. The service should be about serving the community, not just clubs or activities you are affiliated with.
Letter of Recommendation (Optional)
We recommend this only if you believe your resume does not reflect your commitment to service, your passions and challenges, or your leadership. This letter should speak about your character, leadership, service, or a combination thereof and be written by an adult who is not a relative. All letters must be signed and include a contact phone number and email. The letter must address a pillar where you believe you are weakest. This must be communicated to the person writing the letter.
If you have any questions regarding the application process, please see our advisor, Ms. Carlson in room B220, or email her at bcarlson@rsu21.net
