During week two, we will focus on nutrition. We will have a guest speaker join us to teach kids about nutrition and eating healthy during the long winter months. We will also have a fun community meal, where we will join together to enjoy time together and healthy food.
This week, Robin Taylor, a retired teacher and certified nutritionist came to PES to teach kids about the 5210 message, and keeping their bodies healthy and active. Students participated in a whole school nutrition kickoff. They learned about the 5210 message, organized foods using a food pyramid, and thought about the products they put in their body. In classrooms, staff worked with students on WinterKids activities, as students began to think about how they spend their time after school, and what makes them feel happy. We had a whole school community lunch, and students chose new friends to sit with. We also had a nurse from Midcoast Hospital come to speak with students about keeping their hearts healthy during the winter months. While the temperatures did get colder, that didn't keep us from having fun outside. Our third graders took to the woods in snowshoes on Wednesday. Students also enjoyed a healthy snack of grapes, or celery and peanut butter. Overall, this week was about coming together as a community and providing whole school healthy messaging to students. Thank you to all our staff for their participation in completing another successful week of WinterKids.
