The Parkway-Rockwood Intermediate Honors Orchestra is an ensemble of talented student string musicians from all over the Rockwood and Parkway school districts, ranging in age from elementary through 8th grades.
It is directed by Michael Blackwood and Lindsey Jones.
The Parkway-Rockwood Intermediate Honors Orchestra began as an opportunity for advanced elementary and middle school students in the Rockwood School District to come together to perform music at a more challenging level, as well as at a higher degree of musicianship than they might find in their orchestra classroom setting. Created in the mid-1990s by former Rockwood teachers Karen Person, Sharon Seaver, and Patti Fleer, it has seen a number of different directors over it’s 30-year history. In 2014, with the merger of the Parkway and Rockwood Community Education programs, students from both districts have been eligible to participate, with musicians representing both school districts now being a part of the group for over a decade!
