ABOUT THE
MARQUETTE HS
DEPARTMENT OF BANDS
The Marquette High School Department of Bands currently serves over 531 instrumental students from grade 6 through grade 12. At the core of the department is a vertically aligned winds and percussion curriculum.
Marquette High School students begin band at two middle schools: Crestview Middle School under the direction of Colin Hunt, Jason Bergman, Christian Pierce, and Kaylin Knost; and Selvidge Middle School under the direction of Caitlin Gierer and Andy Cook. Students learn a diverse range of literature and perform at a high level. The middle school curriculum is coordinated between the two middle schools to ensure similar musical development centered around similar objectives. Both middle schools offer like instrument wind classes and a dedicated percussion curriculum. In addition to band classes, students have the opportunity to participate in jazz band, large ensemble festival, and solo and small ensemble festival. Percussion students perform at the annual Night of Percussion Concert.
The high school program strives to develop a tight-knit family of passionate, diverse individuals in a safe, accepting environment and to enliven the community through awe-inspiring musical performance. Students audition into Concert Band, Symphonic Band, and Wind Ensemble. All three concert ensembles meet year round and compete at the MSHSAA State Large Group Festival where they have consistently been awarded top ratings. Outside of school, students can participate in the jazz ensemble, jazz band, marching band, pep band, winter guard, and winter drumline.
