I want students to feel safe, comfortable, and as though they can truly learn in my classroom. This happens when we are courteous and kind to one another. The following guidelines help students learn best:
1. BE PREPARED:
Come to class each day with necessary materials: your binder, your reading book, your agenda, your pens/pencils, and your homework, which is always due at the beginning of class. If you turn homework in after I collect it (late), it will be considered late and worth fewer points. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to check the assignment board in the classroom or online, and to make-up the missing work. If you know you will be absent ahead of time, please see me for advance work. STUDENTS HAVE ONE WEEK TO MAKE UP MAJOR QUIZZES AND TESTS. I believe students learn best with timely feedback. The best way to accomplish this is to hand assignments and tests back quickly in order to review what was done both correctly and incorrectly, in order to improve our learning.
2. PARTICIPATE:
Discuss, ask questions, and think! There will be opportunities for partner and group work, but unless you are told ahead of time, all work must be completed individually. No grade is given for work similar to another student’s (plagiarized work). If you are ever confused or need clarification on an assignment, I urge you to see or email me for help- that’s what I’m here for, and RtI is an EXCELLENT time to get extra help!
3. RESPECT OTHERS AND THEIR PROPERTY:
Do not use inappropriate language or actions. Treat materials and equipment with respect. Do not touch my or anyone else’s property without permission. Please be in your assigned seats when class begins and wait to be dismissed from class by me.
4. BE ON TIME:
Although I realize everyone runs late occasionally, students with excessive tardies will need to spend time with me during lunch.
5. HAVE FUN!: Let’s make the most of our time together and try to smile and laugh daily! I look forward to a wonderful year with each of you!
