Biography

My name is Sharon Schafer and I have worked in the Reedsburg School District since 1995.

My job as a school psychologist includes evaluating students for initial placement in special education and assessment of students' needs when they are placed in special education programming. I consult with special education and regular education teachers to problem solve for students that are struggling in school. When time permits, I meet with students and groups but I am generally not involved in daily counseling with students. I can supply families with contacts for area counselors that would provide therapeutic counseling for students.

I am a member of the Crisis Management team and assist with any building crisis situations by counseling individual or small groups of students.

I am a part of the Sauk/Columbia Transition Planning Team. This team is made up of representatives from Baraboo, Sauk Prairie, Wisconsin Dells, and Reedsburg. The team's goal is to plan events for high school special education students to gain more experience and skills in the areas of work, health, and job readiness skills. Events planned by this committee include: Wellness Day, Job Shadow Day, Job Olympics, as well as many other fun and informative events. I also work closely with the high school special education teachers to plan transition activities for the RAHS special education students. These activities have included: Individual job shadow experiences, trips to Madison College in Madison, and trips to local job service agencies.

I help organize team meetings and participate in Building Assistance Team (BAT) meetings at the Middle School level to discuss students that are at-risk for failing and may need to be evaluated for special education services.

I have some special knowledge in the use of iPads in education and apps that have been successful for students to improve their academic skills. I have provided training for school staff members on using iPads in their classrooms and using apps within their curriculums. I have a Master's degree in Instructional Technology use in the classrooms as well that I use in assisting students and staff find appropriate technology to support learning.
