Course Expectations and Grading:
1. All students are to follow the classroom rules of conduct as explained in class and outlined in the student handbook.
Any behavior that interferes with the ability of students to learn or the teacher to do his job is not allowed.
2. Consequences of rules violations are as follows:
A. First Offense, A verbal warning is issued.
B. Second Offense, A 5 minute conference with the student is held with the student after or before the next class period.
C. Third Offense, A time out or constructive work time will be issued where the student will write a plan for improving their behavior in class. Parents will be contacted.
D. Fourth and Greater Offenses, Student will be referred to the office and the parent will be contacted.
The teacher reserves the right to start the student at any given level depending on the seriousness of the offense. Example: Fighting will be a step 4 violation.
3. Grading policy will include a final grade arrived by considering the student’s performance on daily work, projects, quizzes, tests, and class participation. Tests and quizzes will be approximately 45-80% of the grade and all other work will be 20-75% of the grade. Participation will be worth up to 5 points per day.
4. Students will have prior knowledge to all assignments, tests and projects. All assignments will be posted on the dry erase board in the classroom until the due date. Some quizzes may be administered with out prior announcement.
5. Academic dishonesty/cheating will result in a zero.
6. Students are encouraged to participate in class and miss as little as possible due to the amount and scope of material covered. Work not turned in by the due date will receive an F, except in the case of absences. Students may receive 50% of the points for late work turned in prior to the test on that unit. In the case of absences, the student will have the number of days missed to make up work or tests. Exceptions will be made on a case by case basis.
7. All courses includes laboratory experiences that require the student to be safe and follow directions for the lab, failure to do so will result in a zero for the lab and possible exclusion from future labs.
8. High School Grading Scale
95-100+ = A 77-79 = C
92-94 = A- 74-76 = C-
89-91 = B+ 71-73 = D+
86-88 = B 68-70 = D
83-85 = B- 65-67 = D-
80-82 = C+ <65 = F
Middle School Grading Scale
94-100+ = A 75-83 = C
93 = A- 74 = C-
92 = B+ 73 = D+
86-91 = B 61-72 = D
85 = B- 60 = D-
84 = C+ <59 = F
