Safe and Ethical Work Practices refer to things you need to do in your Production Role to protect the physical and emotional wellbeing of yourself, your production team AND the audience.
This may include:
Actors:
participate in warm-ups
keep a healthy diet
communicate respectfully to production team
keep a clean and decluttered space
attend rehearsals as requested
Set Designers:
ensure materials used in designs are not hazardous
if set pieces are on wheels, brakes are working and used
wings are cleared of set pieces, providing clear access
spike the set so everyone knows where things are placed
Props:
establish a props table
document allergies within the cast (if using consumable props)
ensure props are safe to use and in working order
no hazardous materials (glass, flammable, etc)
Costume:
costumes fit correctly and are comfortable for actors to work in
organise a place for costumes to be stored safely
ensure costumes are not left on the floor in wings, becoming a trip hazard
store equipment (scissors, pins, etc) safely
Make-Up:
ensure hygiene requirements are met
do not re-use wipes, cotton buds, etc
document allergies within cast
using ethically sourced make-up (not tested on animals)
Sound and Lighting:
check leads have been tagged and tested
research appropriate sound levels to use
set the lights at a level that don't blind the cast
ensure adequate communication for bio-box to front of house
always let the production team know when you are going to black out
